One of Lord Shiva's holiest pilgrimages, Kedarnath is located in the Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand's Garhwal area. The most significant of the Panch Kedar, Kedarnath is one of Uttarakhand's Char Dhams. One of Lord Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingas, Kedarnath is located at an elevation of 3586 metres, surrounded by spectacular Himalayan peaks and close to the head of the Mandakini River.
Lord Shiva, the destroyer and defender, also goes by the moniker Kedar, which means mighty. The serene atmosphere surrounding the temple makes for a lovely location to practise meditation. The Shiva Temple, a well-known Hindu shrine and place of pilgrimage that draws visitors from all over the world, is the main draw in this area. Natural beauty and religious fervour, for example, boost the potential for travel and tourism in this area.
Shiva is regarded as the personification of all passions, including love, hate, fear of the future, death, and mysticism, which are all reflected in his different forms. In the vicinity alone, there are more than 200 Shiva shrines, Kedarnath being the most significant.
You can take a bus or a Tata Sumo to Sonprayag from the Rishikesh Bus Terminal. Although it can be difficult to find direct buses to Sonprayag, try Guptkashi, which is a well-established town in the last town before Kedarnath. Daily bus service is also provided from major towns in Uttarakhand to Guptkashi. The alternative is to take a bus to Rudraprayag and then from Rudraprayag to Guptkashi. You can continue your journey to Sonprayag from Guptkashi using shared Jeeps or Tata Sumo vehicles.
Only after a 16 km journey over a paved road from Gaurikund can you get to Kedarnath. To ascend the inclining path, you can ride a horse or a pony.
Make an effort to rise early each morning. Take a bath and visit the Kedarnath Temple to offer your respects. It won't take you more than about three hours to finish this process from standing in the temple row to receiving darshan. Around the Kedarnath shrine, there are prashad shops. After that, you can go to the Baba Bhairav temple, which is close to Kedarnath and is located on a hilltop. The distance to the temple is about 600 metres.
Bid adieu to this lovely town in Uttarakhand. You should allow 7 to 8 hours for the trip. It is advised to set off early in the morning to get to Rishikesh in time to board a night bus or train.
